Keep marketing. Skip the R1 million fine.
Nobody enjoys the "where did you get my number?" call. From now on it can also cost you. South Africa's new opt-out registry says you must register and clean your lists every month. We handle it for insurers, lenders, call centres, estate agencies, dealerships and anyone else who sells by phone or message, so you can get back to selling.
People can now block marketing from you, your industry or a channel on one national register, run by the National Consumer Commission.
Register by 31 December 2026, then check your lists against the register every month and stop messaging anyone who's blocked you.
Fines up to R1 million or 10% of turnover. Full enforcement is expected from 15 April 2027.

Who we work with
South Africans got 17.47 billion spam calls in the first half of 2026. These are the sectors that send the most marketing, and the ones we look after.
Insurance & funeral cover
Insurance pitches are the biggest single type of spam call in South Africa, about 14% of the total.
Guide for insurersLenders & financial services
Loan, credit and investment offers make up about 10% of spam calls. Insurers and financial institutions are named in the rules.
Guide for lendersCall centres & outsourced sales
Singled out at the registry's launch. The brands you sell for stay liable for your calls, so they will ask you for proof.
Telecoms & phone deals
Contract upgrades and phone deals were one of the examples named when the registry went live.
Estate agencies
Listing blasts, show-day messages and canvassing owners who might sell all count as direct marketing.
Guide for estate agenciesCar dealerships
Stock specials, finance offers, trade-in deals and service promotions sent to your customer base.
Guide for dealershipsSolar & backup power
Installers market hard by phone and SMS. The NCC lists alternative power supply as a sector of its own.
Selling by phone or message?
Private colleges, travel, retail, wellness and others are covered too. If you market to people directly, the rules apply.

Why I started Clearlist
When the opt-out registry went live in October 2026, I read the regulations and the NCC's guidelines. The rules aren't hard, but they need doing every month, and that's easy to forget when you're busy running a business.
Clearlist does that monthly work for you and gives you a written record of it each time, at a price a single branch can afford. If you have a question, you deal with me directly.

Common questions
Do we really have to register?
If you send marketing to people by SMS, WhatsApp, email, phone or post, yes. Messages that aren't selling anything may fall outside the rules. Not sure? The free check will tell you.
Our clients already said yes to hearing from us. Doesn't that count?
Not any more. A block on the registry overrides consent someone gave you earlier. That's why lists need checking every month, before every campaign.
What do you do with our contact lists?
Only your monthly clean-up. Every client signs a data processing agreement first, as POPIA requires, and we never market to your contacts. Ever.
Can you guarantee we'll never be fined?
No, and be wary of anyone who says they can. We guarantee the work: your lists cleaned every month and the records that prove it. Miss a month and it's on us.
